Zilla Parishad Dakshina Kannada was established in the year 1987 under Panchayath Raj Act of Govt. of Karnataka

The first elected body was constituted in 1987 with K. C. Kundar as first ever elected President of Dakshina Kannada Zilla Parishad and Smt. K. M. Prabhadevi as Vice-President.

The Dakshina Kannada Zilla Panchayath office is located near Kottara, Mangalore.
