Athani Taluka is located on North-Western part of Karnataka. The total Geographical area is 1995.7 Square Kilometers. The Taluka is having 89 inhabited villages and hamlets with rural population of 461400 souls as per 2001 census. The taluka is bounded by Sangli District of Maharastra. Out of geographical area, 74% of the area is used for cultivation. Geologically the area is covered by Deccan Trap formation. The average Annual rainfall is 582 mm. The two rivers run in the Taluka viz: 1) Krishna 2) Agrani.

The main occupation of the Taluka is Agriculture, cultivated area of the taluka is 1,88,576 Hectors. The crops grown are sugar cane, Jawar, Wheat and Ground nut. The area is covered by Ghataprabha project and part of area is covered under Hippergi project which is under progress. Total irrigable area by canals Irrigation, open wells, and bore wells is 27,593 Hectares. There are two Sugar factories located at Ugar B.K. village and the other near Athani town which is under construction. The main market center having A.P.M.C. Yard located at Athani.
