BRIEF PROFILE

 

Mr Suresh Kumar initiated himself into politics during the emergency period in 1975. He was imprisoned for a period of 15 months along side great leaders like Sri. LK Advani ji,     Sri. AB Vajpayee ji, Sri.Ramakrishna Hegde and others. Later he started his career as an advocate. Right through his career, he is known for his honesty, vision, simplicity and straightforwardness.

 

He’s been in active politics for the last three decades. He has risen from the grass roots level from being an active worker in Janasangh, twice Corporator and thrice the Legislative Member of Karnataka Assembly.  Value based politics is one principle he has adhered to all through these years.

 

During 1999 he donned the role of deputy leader of Assembly. and was recognized by the then Chief Minister JH Patel as the Model Legislator.

 

It is all the more imperative; he has got friends cutting across all party lines.

 

 

Presently he is the Minister for Urban development, law and Parliamentary Affairs in Karnataka Government.

 

 

Since taking over as the minister, he has ushered in a lot of reforms in the areas of urban development. Many of his achievements include but not limited to introduction of new urban development policy, initiating ambitious KANNADA GANGA scheme which is a giant step in solving water woes of towns and cities, 100% rooting out of scavenger system, scientific disposal of solid waste, health care scheme for the senior citizens, setting up of vigilance cell to root out corruption, computerization of administration in all the Urban development bodies and city corporations, up gradation of some of the existing city municipalities to new city corporations and many others.

 

As regards, department of Law, many of his achievements include setting up of Law University, which was a long standing demand, setting up of Law Commission to improve the legal system, schemes to encourage budding lawyers and many others.

 

It is more relevant here to mention, writing has always been a passion to him. He also dons the role of Columnist in leading dailies amidst his tight schedules. His write ups have received rave reviews across all sections of Society.

 

He was nominated as Leader of the House during 11th session of 13th Assembly.
