1. GENERAL INFORMATION:
1.1 In order to improve youth welfare and social welfare activities, to gear up family planning and other health programmes and to engage the youth in sports and cultural activities, the department of Youth Services is organising youth clubs in the district. Unemployed graduates are being appointed as Karnataka Youth Services Corps Volunteers by the department. They should be below 35 years of age. They are appointed purely on temporary basis and on consolidated salary. Student Welfare Officers are appointed on temporary basis on a consolidated honorarium in each of the colleges to look after the youth welfare activities and sports in the colleges.
1.2 Training programmes for the youth club members are being conducted at Kumbalgod and Vidyanagar Training Centers Bangalore . The boys are trained at Vidyanagar Training Centre and the girls are trained Kumbalgod Training Centre, Bangalore. The Youth and Yuvathi club members participate in Taluka level youth rallies, District level youth rallies.
1.3 The department is conducting the Dasara Sports, Women Sports and Rural Sports from Taluka level to District level. The winners of the District Sports Meet participate in the State level Sports Meet. Talented students are selected for the Sports Hostels and Schools in order to continue their education while learning sports. Pension is being given to the indigent sports persons by the department. The State level youth awards are also given to the Youth Clubs and individuals.
1.4 The department has been making budget provision for construction of taluka level stadium for quite sometime. As a result taluka stadiums are being constructed in Sirugappa and Hospet. In Hadagali a Yoga Kendra and an Indoor Stadium have been constructed. In Kurugod an Indoor Stadium and a Mandal level Stadium have been constructed. With the departmental matching grants of 50% 29 Youth Club buildings and 8 open air theatres have been constructed.
