1. General Information:
Department of Co-operation is playing a vital role in the growth of rural economy by organizing various types of Co-operative Institutions .In Bellary District 915 different types Co-operative Societies have been registered of which 143 Primary Agricultural Credit Societies are working, 6 PCA&RD Banks, 7 TAPCMS, 1 DCC Bank, 1 Co-operative Union, 6 Urban Co-operative Banks, 1 KOF, 1 KMF, 41 Women Co-operatives, 2 Sheep and Wool Producers Co-operative Societies, 30 Industrial Co-operative Societies, 126 Consumers Co-operative Societies, 17 Weavers Co-operatives , 161 Milk Producers C.S., 27 House Building C.S., 31 Non-Agricultural C.S. , 24 Oil Seeds Growers C.S. and 78 others C.S, are working ,48 defunct and 163 are liquidated. They need financial assistance for better functioning particularly to the members in Rural areas and general public in common.

The PACS (Primary Agricultural Co-op-operative Societies/Banks ) are basically to advance loans to farmers for agricultural purposes, normally the recovery of these loans are very poor and the interest margin received is very less because of low interest rates. Hence, the societies has to undertake non-credit activities to earn more and to give non/credit facilities to the members . The interest free loan will help the societies to undertake business like supply of essential commodities, fertilizers and non/controlled commodities at village level . Hence Rs.3.50 lakhs has been proposed for 7 societies. |

The Primary Agricultural Co-op. Societies are situated in villages. Besides, providing credit for Agricultural purposes they have to under take business like, supply of
essential commodities, fertilisers and non-controlled commodities. These have to be sold
on day to day basis for meeting the daily needs of the members. They require a building
for carrying on these activities. There are number of societies without any business
premises. Hence Rs.1.00 has been proposed for one society. |
